“Sleep Faster”

Yep. Its another motivational post. Except, I’m going to critique myself while writing it, for your enjoyment!

Its late at night. I work graveyard shift. There isn’t alot to do. So I’m going to sit here and write some thoughts down, hoping to protect my brain from atrophy.

DAIN.BRAMAGE

I overslept and was late to work today. For the 2nd day in a row. That’s 2 hours of sick time i could have used to take a whole day off.

The cop out would be to say that my work hours are absolute garbage. Instead of my normal graveyard shift, 1030pm- 7am, they slid us to the right for some god-forsaken reason. For the next holiday season, I work 230am to 11am. When should i sleep? 12pm to 8pm? Or 4pm to midnight?

I went ahead and did pretty much neither. I attempted to sleep at 3, woke up an hour later, couldn’t fall back to sleep. Went back to bed at 9, woke up at 210am

Whoops.

I live 45 minutes from work. No way I’m making it by 230. 2nd day in a row of that shit.

Not even a letter

But I’m not complaining. I do not regret risking it by staying up.

Because the worst part of this shift isn’t the jacked up sleep habits, or the lack of social life caused by working when everyone’s sleeping and sleeping when everyone’s working. Not the people I happen to work with, nor the cold nor the inability to ride to work,

Those are alotta complaints for someone not complaining. Get to the point.

The issue is that I remembered an old uber motivational saying from my scabber non-union electrician days: 8 hours belongs to your job. 8 hours goes to sleep. That leaves 8 hours a day for bullshit and to work on your own goals and dreams.

Arnold is quoted as saying you only need 6-7 hours of sleep. If you need more than that, you need to learn to sleep faster.

“You’re not tired, you’re uninspired.”

So i decided to work on myself yesterday. Paid the price by oversleeping.

This new year is launching a new plan of action, and you gotta break some eggs to make an omelet.

Worth it.

Last year I was taught the rules. This year I’m playing the game better.

It starts right here, actually. Writing these thoughts, sharing them with you (ha. Assuming I’m going to publish this AAAAND anyones going to read it 😂😂)

It keeps me honest. Focused. In line with my goals. If I tell you my goal is to save money, be prepared for fun, and not fall into nasty life habits, then you’re my witness (all 2.5 of you 😉)

For once, I actually have a task at work. So I gotta roll. But I can tell you that I’m 12 days early, and ready for the new year.

12 days early for the new year beats 1 hour late for work. All day long.

Oh hey, I barely mentioned motorcycles. So, here:

Fucken send it, ya pussy.
